AAWP & Express Media Sudden Writing Prize

We are deeply interested in capturing a composite “picture” of what people are writing about. Now. Please send creative work—short-short fiction, “sudden” fiction, “sketchy” stories, creative nonfiction, poetry, as well as hybrid forms.

We are accepting submissions on the following scale: up to 400 words prose, 40 lines for poetry, 200 words for prose poems, and the equivalent for hybrid forms. Submissions must be previously unpublished. Please send your most polished work, without delay.

If you win you will receive a written commendation from AAWP and a $500 cash prize. You will have your work published on the Express Media website and receive a Voiceworks subscription. AAWP & Ubud Writers and Readers Festival Translators’ Prize

The editors at Meniscus Literary Journal will also consider your work for publication.

Entries must be no more than 30 lines (poetry) or 3000 words (prose), and entrants can translate their own work into English. Entries must be accompanied by a ‘Translator’s Statement of Intention’ (up to 400 words) addressing the aims of the translation.

AAALS Creative Writing Competition

The American Association of Australasian Literary Studies (AAALS), together with the American Australian Association, welcomes submissions to our annual creative writing competition between 1-31 March 2025.

The competition invites entries in the following categories:

· Poetry

· Creative Prose

· Indigenous Writers Poetry

· Indigenous Writers Creative Prose

With the generous support of the American Australian Association, the value of these prizes has been increased. The winner of each prize will now be awarded US$1000, plus publication in the journal Antipodes.

Announcing the winner of the inaugural Nigel Krauth Prize

The Nigel Krauth Prize is awarded annually to the strongest work published in the volumes of TEXT in the preceding year.

The prize remembers the contributions of co-founding TEXT editor, Nigel Krauth, who was Managing Editor of the journal from 1997 to 2023.

All publications in TEXT between 1 November 2023 and 31 October 2024 were automatically eligible for this award. The TEXT editorial team selected the winner and commended works based on the following criteria:

Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope;
Style and readability;
Quality of the research/innovation/analysis;
Potential impact or contribution to the discipline.

The winner receives a $500 cash prize, contributed this year by the Australasian Association of Writing Programs.

University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor’s International Poetry Prize

The Vice-Chancellor’s International Poetry Prize is running again in 2023.

About the Prize

The University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor’s International Poetry Prize has been offered annually since 2014. On behalf of the University, this is administered by the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research in the Faculty of Arts and Design.

The prize celebrates the enduring significance of poetry to cultures everywhere in the world, and its ongoing and often seminal importance to world literatures. It marks the University of Canberra’s commitment to creativity and imagination in all that it does, and builds on the work of the International Poetry Studies Institute in identifying poetry as a highly resilient and sophisticated human activity. It also builds on the activities of the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research, which conducts wide-ranging research into human creativity and culture.

The 2023 prize winners will be announced by November 2023 and the prize winners and short-list will be notified prior to that.

Important details are:

The winner will receive AUD$15,000
The international winner will receive AUD$5,000
The runner-up (second-placed poem) will receive AUD$5,000
Four additional poems will be short-listed
An online prize anthology of up to 60 longlisted poems will be published

All poems entered for the prize will be single poems that have a maximum length of 60 lines
