US-based researchers are investigating 'the current state of action research on writing, a form of applied or pedagogical research in which teacher-scholars research their own students, classrooms, pedagogical practices, curricula, or programs with the intention of using the results to improve student learning and/or educational quality'. Deborah Hunn is a Lecturer in the School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts at Curtin University D.Hunn@curtin.edu.au. She is seeking respondents to a questionnaire that is part of a research project that examines the participation of emergent writers in online fan fiction forums and/or hard copy zine making (whether or not fan oriented). The project seeks to explore the ways in which such practices shape the skills and knowledge of emergent writers.

NAWE members are invited to submit proposals to this essential UK event for writers working in all educational and community contexts.

The NAWE Conference enables writers to share their various approaches to teaching writing at all levels and to address current issues. We are open to any suggestions in terms of presentation format but we are likely to give preference to workshop sessions or discussions where delegates can be most actively involved.

Islet is a new online companion to Island magazine's existing print journal, and will publish a free quarterly collection of works by emerging writers and visual artists.
 
Islet accepts poetry, fiction, and reviews, with size the only limitation: we are committed to publishing small works. Maximum lengths: poetry -- 25 lines; fiction -- 600 words; reviews -- 400 words. Our pay rates are $50 for a poem and $75 per prose work (fiction or review).
